In the dye houses of Kutch, ajrakh has been made this way for centuries. Iron from the earth. Jaggery from sugarcane. Myrobalan from the harda tree. Three things, fermented slowly, layered onto cloth by hand.

The colour does not sit on top. It soaks into every thread. Look closely and you'll see quiet layers in the shade. That is what earth gives you.

The malmal is almost weightless. Fine enough to feel like air on the skin. It breathes through long summer afternoons and softens with every wash.

Kimono sleeves cut for ease. A shirt that does not pull at the shoulder, does not ask anything of you. Wear it to a meeting. Open it over a slip dress for dinner. Loose on a Sunday with nothing to do.
